Offshore wind, waste-to-energy and major power plants

Our roots in the energy market run deep. Ramboll was there in the early history of offshore wind, and today 50% of the world’s offshore wind turbines rise from foundations engineered by Ramboll. We were also there in the early days of waste-to-energy, and since then we have procured over 60 new installations with a combined operational capacity in excess of 8 million tonnes of waste per year and a power output enough to supply more than 880,000 households. Our involvement in power plants is unparalleled, having designed and constructed more than 90 major power plants and been instrumental in the ongoing conversion from fossil fuels to biomass.

Solar, bio energy, tidal & wave and geothermal

In terms of other renewables, we have since 1993 been involved in 200,000 m2 solar heating plants, covering some 20 different projects. We have a large technical resource combining considerable experience in bioenergy solutions, including the use of biomass for energy production and biogas production, upgrade, handling and use. We are also keenly interested in the possibilities that less well-tested renewable technologies, such as tidal stream and geothermal energy generation, have to offer. Long experience has taught us the success of any new energy technology depends on the delivery of economic structures that can be easily installed.

District heating

Also when it comes to the connection between production facilities and consumers we lead the way, drawing on our 40-year experience as lead consultants to the most sophisticated district heating network in the world, namely the one in Copenhagen, which supplies heat to more than 1 million people.
